Liang shui Experimental Forestry Centre is one of the important bases for education and scientific research of Northeast Forestry University,as well as being a national reserve of forest and wildlife.It is located at the southeast part of the Xiaoxingan mountains,the east region of northeast China.Administratively,the reserve belongs to Dailing District,Yichun city,Heilongjiang Province.The total area of the reserve is 12,133hm2 with a total forest stock of 1.7 million m3 and the coverage of 98%.
The topography of the reserve is characterized
by low mountains or hills with an obvious feature of temperate continental
monsoon climate.Broad-leaved/Korean Pine forest ecosystem with the rich
paleo-floristies or ¨Cfauna and typical community phytogenesis and key
preserving species of China in the reserve is mainly preserved.The reserve
not only consists of diverse forest types, but the biodiversity is also
very high.According to the research of many years,there are more than
2000 different kinds of species.There are 46 species of animals and 5
species of plants belonging to the key preserving species of China.These
forest types cover almost all types in Xiaosingan Mountains,and have great
value in science.The reserve was exploded at the middle of 1950¡¯s.Formally, Liangshui Experimental Forestry Centre of NEFU was founded in 1958.It became a natural reserve of forest and wildlife ratified by the Ministry of Forest of China in 1980.The reserve joined the Man and Biosphere Program of China in September of 1997 and became a national reserve in the same year.
The reserve has been conducting multi-subject scientific research centered in Korean Pine research for many years.Since 1981,3 research stations have been set up,they are about Forestry Ecological Niche,wildlife Ecological Research and Forest Genetics and Breeding.In 1992,many research centers have been set up in the reserve,such as NEFU Korean Pine Research Center,Korean Pine Research Center of Heilongjiang Province,Wildlife Reservation Committee of Heilongjiang Province.
Many scientific research projects were carried out at the reserve.About 100 scientific papers and 6 books have been published until now.Two projects were awarded by National Science and Technology Progressing Award Committee.Seven projects were awarded by Science and Technology Progressing Award Committee, the Ministry of Forestry.
The reserve is rich in natural resources,and the natural environment and the scenery of the reserve are elegant.In the early spring,trees sprout and flowers bloom while snow and ice don¡¯t melt away;in the summer,old trees go in to the blue sky, the green covers the ground, clean streams flow quietly,flying birds sing songs,and a hundred flowers blossom;in the golden autumn, mountains put on colorful clothes and become a superb collection of the natural beauty; in the winter,silver snow flies and forms a dreamed kingdom.The natural scenery has much enjoyment and makes you forget to go back home.
The reserve has excellent facilitation for scientific study and perfect accommodation for tourism.Annually,more than 100 foreign specialists or experts from Canada,England,Japan,Russia,USA visit the reserve.In addition,about 10 thousand people come here for sightseeing.
Liangshui is marvelous and mystery,which is the wealth of the world.The reserve welcomes all friends from different parts of the world for research, recreation and holiday.
